Ideas for Self Care for Moms

by | Apr 20, 2020

Being a mom is the hardest and most rewarding job on the PLANET! However, moms often find that they are so busy taking care of everyone else, they forget to take care of themselves.

Please know it is imperative to include self-care in your day. Remember…if momma ain’t happy, nobody is happy!!!

Here are a few tips to help you with self-care.

TIP 1: Schedule time during your day, or short breaks multiple times a day that you can do something for yourself. Take a hot bath, read a book, meditate, journal, engage in a favorite hobby, take a walk by yourself and feel NO guilt!!!

TIP 2: Make sure to feed yourself like someone that you love and care about deeply. How would you feed your mother or sister if they were stressed and exhausted? You would feed them high quality, nutrient dense foods that would help fuel their mind and body. Use food preparation time to teach your children some basic cooking skills such as measuring, reading recipe directions, food safety, etc. Make it fun! Have the children help with meal planning too! One of my friends has her children help plan a themed dinner 1-2 times a week. The kids have had so much fun looking up recipes for the theme night and love participating with the meal preparation. They are learning valuable life skills AND it is a great way to have some fun bonding time while also getting some help with this chore.

TIP 3: Take a few minutes to call or get together to connect with friends. We are normally all so busy that it is easy to disconnect from our friends. It can be extremely beneficial to talk with your friends about your fears, feelings as well as share some ideas on how you are getting through the day-to-day struggles.

TIP 4: Take time to learn something YOU have always wanted to learn. Learning new things reignites our creativity, passion and yearning for growth. There are a gazillion online resources for you to learn ANYTHING!!! Youtube is your FRIEND!

TIP 5: Give yourself some GRACE!!! Remember, being Superwoman was not on your birth certificate. You are doing the BEST job you can. Remember, it is OK to ask for help!! Demonstrating your ability to ask for help in front of your children helps show them it is ok for them to ask for help too! Remember….we are modeling behavior for our children…especially our daughters. We want them to know it is ok if they ask for help when they are moms someday too.

TIP 6: Take time to take care of your body. Yoga, stretching, walking, and chiropractic care are all ways to help your physical health which helps your mental health.

To all the mom’s out there…..you are simply AMAZING!
